Thrown Together? Fate or Plan? Daisy X Spider:
When it was announced, quite recently, that the father of Daisy's second litter was none other than Spiderleg, the Warriors fanworld went into a frenzy. Why did the Erins choose Spiderleg of all cats to be Daisy's new mate? He had shown signs of disliking outsiders a great deal, as he shows on several occasions a dislike for kittypets, loners, rouges, ect, also, the pair never really interact! Have you ever seen the two make conversation during the book? so WHY? Their personalities clash, and it leaves us wondering - were they paired up at random? Spiderleg was a random, single tomcat, available to produce more kittens in the clan! Daisy needed to have another litter to help the plot move along, and keep the clan going, simple as that? or did the three Authors have some hidden motives to stick them together the way they did? A very popular theory actually involves Cloudtail! Daisy had admitted to loving Cloudtail, but she could not be with him, as he already had a mate, and one kit! Perhaps Daisy saw a bit of Cloudtail in Spiderleg. Spiderleg, in his late apprentice days, displayed hotheaded, Impatient, Awkward and stubborn qualities, which as you know are all very similar to Cloudtail's usual attitude. Another interesting, if slightly disturbing thought is that there was an unseen paw, in this match? Ferncloud is known as Daisy's closest friend within the Clan, as the two share a close bond, and Ferncloud Also happens to be Spiderleg's mother. Could the queen have played matchmaker for her friend or son? A recurring theme in Warriors is having kits (or taking a mate) to show loyalty or regain respect within the Clan-as displayed by the Crowfeather/Nightcloud fiasco. Another possible reason for the seemingly-random match-up would be the respect factor. All of Daisy's kits from her first litter, and even Daisy herself, are barn-cats, with no thunderclan blood running through their veins at all! Many Clan cats, ThunderClan and others, looked down on her for it. Having a respectable ThunderClan cat with good lineage father her kits would certainly raise a few cats's views of her. Why would Spiderleg return her "affection", though? He never really communicated with the Horseplace cat, as far as we know, and always had aggressiveness towards outsiders. Perhaps was trying to quickly fulfill different aspects of his life, to become a matured warrior, and took a mate quickly, without thought. Or maybe he was eager to extend his lineage within the Clan! Also, if we look at Outcast, he seems very distant to her, and unlike the other toms, Brakenfur, Dustpelt ect, he has no desire to visit his "Beloved" in the nursery, nor pay much heed to his newborns! Whether Spiderleg was chosen at random or not, we all have to agree that this new shipping is strange, nonetheless! With the official release of Eclipse coming soon, we hope that more light will be shed on the issue, and answers will reveal themselves!
